Jay would've found a way to stay relevant. He always does. Just as Kanye tips off popularity rise he rides the JT/Timbo wave.

He rode Kanye for 1 solo, 1 group. Used the experience to boost his stage show with Kanye-like anthems. And got on the next train.

blueprint was a big album and probably pushed jay z to new levels, but to say he saved his career?

imma young nikka though so i can only go by what i see and hear today, i was a lil ass kid when jay was at the height of his career. but to my knowledge all his albums between reasonable doubt and blueprint all went multi-plat :manny:

:russ: the way nikkas shyt on Jay here is unreal. I'm not even a huge fan of his like that but it's getting pretty ridiculous.

I think in the early 2000s Jay would have been fine without Ye. Just based off what he did in the 90's he would still have a good to possibly great career without him. Ye did bless him with some tracks though. But I think Ye helped keep him more relevant with the younger crowd post 2006 or 2007. Maybe he would have fell off a lil by then without him? Obviously, they both needed each other to be where they are today. It's not fair to say one helped the other out more.

Is there an argument to say that Ye made him more creative??

Hov had a bunch of other producers who would've replace kanye in a blink of an eye

It's like saying where would Jordans be without the Wizards.

Jay-z retired as a strong goat candidate before people knew Kanye.
His hiphop career or legacy has not really changed since 2003, besides in pop music.

And I would assume that his marketing skills etc had a lot more to do with that than any producer.

I know Jay would still be super relevant but let's not downplay Kanye here.

Kanye started this stadium status ish in hip-hop and Jay-z ran with that sound.

Throughout Jay's career he's looked at the leading man in the game and took his style to a certain extent. Started rapping slower like Nas and em. Got on that Mafiso ish like Wu and them. Was super-rugged and rapping on Swizz Beats' when DMX was popping. He set the pace in the game for the next few years. Came back.. tried to find position.... rode a movie for an album but that didn't capture the hip-hop community like that.. around the same time 'Ye sells a million first week with Graduation and Jay has basically wanted a slice of that type of hipster/mainstream/stadium rap since. Kanye has started to lose momentum and then he jumps on the JT a million in the first week wave.

Jay staying relevant? He'll always manage that. He can do anything, any style, pretty well. He'll be around. But the style he chooses to do it in, is dependent on who he riding.

He still biting 'Ye to a degree. Ye has always said how important art is too him. Fashion, architecture, artists, general cool things if anyone remembers his blog. 6 years later Jay-Z makes songs called Picasso Baby and Tom Ford.

Hov is still just about the GOAT for me but he certainly loves the attention.
