I asked this because I’m currently listening to My Krazy Life, which is a dope party album & everyone was on the Mustard craze then… But a lot of shyt was talked within that period. Even by Mustard himself. Just don’t hear their names as much as to the legends they were compared to.
It's crazy but in 2022, there are simply so many producers. Probably
exponentially more producers than artists now - everybody got a computer to download DAWs but not everybody can sing, rap or come up with good lyrics. It is not crazy to see an album with 15 songs have 15 different producers, with no common producers between songs. It's the "type beat" generation where newer producers upload beats they did to youtube that sounds like another producer or is directed at an artist. Then a new artist that wants to sound like Lil Baby for example hears it and buys it or hits them up for a collab or rights to the beat.
They also do this on sites like beatstars so if an artist wants to buy a "Future type beat" or a "Metro Boomin type beat" they can get one on the cheap from a producer trying to get heard rather than pay a steep price to somebody like Metro Boomin for one.
Another big thing many modern producers are doing now is that they sell their soundkits and presets online at sites like wavsupply or a subscription sites like splice. That way when new producers come in, they end up using their sounds as well. Of course everyone just hits up reddit communities to get many of these kits though.
Plus so many producers share their screen when they stream themselves making beats now so everyone copies but they don't mind or at least know that's what many people are doing on their stream. Most producers in the game don't really hold onto their secrets anymore - the clout is sharing what you do. There are too many sharp ears out there that break everyone's beats down. Mostly everyone shares their sauce now.
Somebody like Kennybeats has his own discord where everybody shares sounds, loops, etc. Not to mention all the beat collabs.
Producing now is like the gaming community: twitch, youtube, streams, etc. In many ways, and you'll hear people mention it but the "super producer" is a thing of the past or starting to be a thing of the past.
Additionally, so much new music comes out every week. Last I heard it was like every 5 days there are 1 million minutes worth of new music released on all streaming sites/apps which takes like 2 years of straight listening if you want to hear it all the music that came out those few days.
Edit: about 60,000 new songs added to Spotify each day. 3 minutes each song and that is about 900k minutes of music every 5 days.
