I have a bachelors in Computer Information Systems but haven’t used it.

I started looking up certs and came across CISSP but everything I saw said you should have at least 5 years experience and prior certs before even thinking about it. Plus even if I did do the coursework and pass the test, I wouldn’t be considered completely official till I have 5 years experience and I’d have to get it within the next 6 years.

I then came across CompTIA Security+ which is moreso for beginners, at least more than CISSP is.

I was focused more on cyber security, but am open to other ideas.

This my first thread and maybe even my first post on this side, just wanna know what y’all brehs think. Am open to any advice.

Get Security+. Read the entire IT Thread. Don’t be like some brehs that ask questions all day but don’t pass any certs :comeon:

Im on page 6 so far of that thread. I gotta make a decision soon so I won’t get thru the whole 1100+ page thread by then

Ima read thru it some more, but so far it looks like I should start with A+ before going to Security+, is that necessary?

Naa get Security+. Don’t read the thread to figure out what certs to get. Just learn vicariously from their experiences in between studying for security+

Just read the last 200 or so pages. Starting from the beginning… some of that info is too old. Like some of the old certs don’t exist anymore.

I’ve been following the Udemy course and taking notes. I actually enjoy reading more than following videos. Which book do you suggest?

Looking at Amazon
Despite most of the security+ books having overall good ratings of 4-4.5 stars. I’ve been noticing recent reviews shytting on them too and they go in depth. While the ones that praise them are generic as hell. Mike Meyers book, McGraw Hill all in one book, Darril Gibson book and Ian Neil book.

Glen Clarke book looks to be the most recent published one (April of last year). Only has 4 ratings with a high score but no comments.
