Nah, they started at 98 on up, 96-97 were developed by Sony Interactive

and i had shootout 97 wit Eddie Jones on the front cover

NBA Live was still a respectable franchise all the way up to 2005 (With Melo on the cover)
After that it fell of a cliff in 2006. 2007 and 2008 were just roster updates. 2009 was awful and then they improved with 2010, but it was too late.
So with that said, the answer to this thread is NBA Live. It's crazy how EA has tarnished this series...it was the 3rd most important sports franchise and they completely fukked it up.

Shootoutlive was always on some unrealistic bs
yea they were a great contrast.
I loved em both for different reasons. they co-existed well. shootout didn't come thru and snatch the crown like 2K sports did tho.

2005 was when I stopped messin wit live.
the gameplay was still addictive but the franchise mode & everything else was cheaply done.
