Keeping my overhead low, and my understand high
I never put much thought into the greatness of the English empire probably cause English is like the dominant language for communicating worldwide...

but Spain owned many more countries plus the Philipines which has like a billion ppl

I feel like they don't ever talk about them much when we get taught about Europe in school aside from paying for Columbus' trip

Very little admirable about imperialism.

That said, Britain's scope reached every continent with the largest empire of all time by sheer land area.

They at different points in time controlled India, Hong Kong, Egypt, Canada, the US colonies, Australia/NZ, South Africa, Palestine and many other countries of extreme geopolitical/economic importance.

English, not even an argument to be frank. If you look at some of the heavy players on the international scene most are former English colonies. That and many of the more economically important markets are former English colonies.

-USA
-Hong Kong
-Australia
-New Zealand
-Nigeria
-South Africa
-Canada (ruling majority is English, French is just there)
-India
-Kenya

The Spanish got most of Latin and Central America but there isn’t a particular Heavy hitter that was a former Spanish colony.

Spain cant and couldnt govern for shyt.

They pulled modern day equivalent of trillions of dollars out of their conquered empires yet today they are a borderline 3rd world country.

Spanish empire was really some "never should have gave you money" shyt whether its leaving the Armada out in a thunderstorm or their mismanagement of the Netherlands after God moved land and sea to give them control of it.

Coli done lost its mind.

from constant diaspora war, and revisionism and reductivism regarding European conquest of Africa and slavery times (people post like majority of Africa willingly sold slaves, as if Europeans weren’t raiding and pillaging the continent) to now creating threads to admire said Empires. this place is crazy

agree with all of it
The sun never sets on the British Empire, was the old slogan.and it was true.

When white brits pat themselves on the back for "ending the trans atlantic slave trade", I mention that slave trade ended and imperialism (neo slavery) kicked into high gear.
Six in one hand, half a dozen in the other.

And their imperial exploits were fueled/funded by revenue from their involvement in that transatlantic slave trade, though.

Damn...I forgot about their Asian exploits. I was giving it to Spain off the strength of Latin America and the Philippians but naw...England killed them
