Black R&B is terrible now, with folks making tired rehashes of songs from the time before, I blame that garbage ass neo-soul for that.
Rap is dead, no one makes happy party music anymore, its a race to the bottom for black artists girls race to be the most explicit rough sounding, man imitating sluts. The boys are either fruitcakes or trying to talk about who they want to kill or how much of a junkie they are.

When do you think that took effect?
I would argue stuff started dying when they started pushing internet shyt to be honest, but Rap grew during the 2000s incredibly.

When NYC let it become acceptable all bets were off after that. nikkaz dumbing their shyt down for radio spins chasing the same radio formula

While its easy to point to the south...the way the south took over was a product of shyt that NY set in motion with Puffy
There was a ton of quality from the South that finally got a chance to be heard. But the start of cats watering down their shyt began at tha point too. Corporations took over coincidentally around that time too
Bingo . And cats from the south realizing they didn’t need nyc to blow anymore. The west, Midwest, and south always fukked with each other due to a lot of NYC elitism
But then the thirst for quantity and hits over quality really began and you had the split with mainstream and underground around that time too
Money and lack of skill started to become more paramount as radio hits didn’t care about that
