Paris or L.A?
both those cities have an image/imprint in pop culture and have set expectation in such a way that is impossible to live up to.
Paris being the city of love & romance, the best style/fashion, the best food (Paris is where the whole "Michelin" chef culture comes from), etc. basically Paris has always been marketed as like the peak of Western civilization
Los Angeles is the city of dreams; a mecca you go to when you want to make it as a big star in the entertainment industry. the city of celebrity & glamour.
when tourists go to these places and realize they're pretty dirty & shytty and it's not at all what they expect, it must come as a big shock
at least a city like New York wears it's tough & gritty reputation on it's sleeve ("if you could make it in NY you can make it anywhere"). if you think NY is all sweet it's your own damn fault and haven't been paying attention
London is kinda similar but to a lesser degree I suppose
