I'm going to need new tires before winter hits.

Is it best to get all season tires?

That's where I got my last set, when I was living in Indiana. But I live in the DC area now. There isn't a discount tire anywhere in Virginia or Maryland.

The nearest one is in Raleigh, NC. I do have family in North Carolina that I plan on visiting come Christmas, but I'm hoping the snow doesn't hit by then...it probably won't so maybe I'll wait.

Growing up in Alaska and living in Indiana I'm used to snow. So the snow that DC gets isn't too bad for me. I know how to drive in it.

I have never had snow tires. How well do they work during the rest of the year? I'm not going to be switching tires back and forth.

Supposedly the compound in snow tires weaken and don't last as long if you run them year round. It's always best to swap them out during the warmer seasons.
Some people have two or more sets of wheels with different tires for each season and you can swap them on/off the car as you need.
And other people just pay to have their only set of wheels balanced and mounted as the seasons change.

Seems like a hassle. I live in an apartment so I don't have my own garage to store my tires. Looks like I'll get some all-season tires.

Tires are the most important aspect of a car, and the only piece of your car with direct contact to the pavement. They're not what you cheap out on. I'm not saying you need spend 300+ a tire but look at them the same way as rotors or brake pads.

If you're out east, Either Mavis, or Costco.
I'm in the DC area. No Mavis tire here.

I have heard other say Costco. But I believe I need a Costco membership to get their tires. And I'm single and live alone in a small one bedroom...so I don't have any need to buy in bulk.

There doesn't seem to be a good place around here. Plus, no one offers free rotation and balancing for the life of the tires.
