in terms of clout, imo it's Harvard :ld:

but M.I.T is the rightful one in terms of being the actual best university in the world

Harvard is all-around best in the world. MIT is only good at one thing, so its reach only holds in a few disciplines. Although they have many programs (for example philosphy, economics, music) MIT is only turning heads within math labs, silicon valley firms, quant-banking, and NASA.

Comparatively, harvard's law, medicine, non-CS stem, business, certain-humanities, and economics programs are the literal best of the best. Meaning Harvard has clout and reach in nearly every discipline and every industry ranging from banking to politics to silicon valley to pharmaceutical firms to anthropology/archaeolgy labs, philospohy, hospitals, etc.

Within the brittish commonwealth Oxford has a similar reach; but outside of the former brittish colonies Harvard is king.

whenever u hear about Artificial intelligence, robots, computers or something it's always M.I.T

the others are interchangeable and usually mean you're probably really good at whatever u do, especially in the sciences

Harvard has the most prestige and notoriety. Your career would be set after graduation in that you’d have the opportunity to do anything with that school on your resume. Unfortunately in social settings alot of people might automatically assume you’re a pompous dikkhead if you say you went there.

M.I.T has the most recognition in terms of academics (science, math, tech, engineering). People will assume you’re some sort of a math savant or a computer genius if you went there.

Oxford is the old money Harvard. Emphasis on old because the Ivies are already old. It’s not mentioned as much in the states (because why would it?). I would prefer to go there as it probably opens up the same doors as Harvard but I wouldn’t feel like I was a douche telling people I went to Oxford.

Cambridge is like Oxford. Just a little bit less prestigious. I feel like it’s the Yale equivalent over there.

I respect your decision but I disagree.

Does Harvard have a Ralph Lauren collab? Was Harvard name dropped by Drake?

exactly

Smoking weed under star projectors
I guess we'll never know what Harvard gets us
But seeing my family have it all
Took the place of that desire for diplomas on the wall

Ranking in terms of clout is Harvard, Oxford, MIT, Cambridge. In all seriousness, MIT may be last. It’s academics may even excel over the three, but it doesn’t really have the cachet. You don’t hear about it often and it’s because it really doesn’t have an aggressive marketing campaign like the other three schools.

As other posters said “Oxbridge” attracts a lot of the global old money.

I did a study abroad in London in high school. Seriously wanted to attend Cambridge. Got distracted and went in another direction but would have loved to attend Uni in England.

In terms of best university, each university has different teaching philosophies and it depends on whether or not they align with your worldview. Best university doesn’t necessarily mean best academics.

With that said, I’m a fan of the English approach to education and lean towards Oxford.
