Perhaps you worded this wrong. Just because something is unsurprising doesn't mean it's not justified in still garnering outrage. The outrage is over the injustice of this inequality existing in the first place. Highlighting the hypocrisy is a way to get people to face it instead of pretend like it doesn't exist.
