Republicans giving out guns to mexican felons :skip:

A U.S. law banning those under felony indictments from buying guns is unconstitutional, a federal judge in West Texas ruled Monday.

U.S. District Judge David Counts, whom then-President Donald Trump appointed to the federal bench, dismissed a federal indictment against Jose Gomez Quiroz that had charged him under the federal ban.

Theres a reason Republican states always have the highest per capita crime rate.

good, as the old saying goes any prosecutor could indict a ham sandwich, and a mere accusation shouldn't lead to the loss of civil rights

it's kind of a moot point anyway since the terms of almost all bond/bail releases prohibit firearms possession, this case was about somebody indicted for lying on the background check form. so i suppose he could continue buying firearms but would have to store them somewhere that isn't his residence.

Shiiiiiiiiiit, I am good with cash bail going. This way their has to be a very good reason to hold someone. You can't get jammed up on some shyt, stuck in the system, only to be given a pat on the ass when its all over. Lose your job and everything else while waiting to be freed.

100%

cash bail has always had a disproportionate negative impact on people of color

Above the fray.
I never found humor in this topic, and I don't now. But have been here long enough to know that smilies and jokes are going to be found in threads about nearly every topic.

Will say the same thing here that I've consistently said. Public safety will always be the primary concern.
Criminal justice reform is needed, but it has to remain structured to protect public safety. And when it doesn't, lawmakers and voters will eventually alter or dial back the reform measures. Not because I think or say so, but because it has happened recently.

Reform measures, in this case bail reform are put in place to prevent a mistake or error from changing the life trajectory of somebody because of lack of finances.
If repeat offenders or the hardcore criminal element is able to slip between the cracks/spaces of these measures and commit more crimes, the altering/dialing back (by lawmakers) that I mentioned will occur. Hopefully these laws are structured and applied in a way that limits the chances of that happening.

The hardcore criminal element is who they are, who they will always be. Anybody banking on them being anything else, will be made into a fool.

smart dumb coli breh opinion #672
U right breh. Restricting gun access and cash bail have been working great so far. Its not like innocent people have been locked up and remanded because they dont have tens of thousands of dollars handy. And criminal felons would never touch a fire arm: thats illegal! And they certainly arent emboldened knowing these gun laws mean the average law abiding citizen probably dont have one. We might as well leave our doors unlocked because i just realized they have laws against trespassing too:whew:

Wow. I feel so much better now. Thanks op:salute:
