i wonder when that shyt changed
We changed the agriculture policy in this country drastically following the Great Depression. Prior to government intervention commodities were dictated by market forces. This would often result in supply fluctuations. Often times commodities were scarce other times large amounts of commodities were left to rot.
As a result of these drastic fluctuations in the market Americans were not eating well at all. Many were skinny from malnutrition. Being skinny was associated with being poor.
The comprehensiveness of our food policy changed this. Now food producers, with the help of the government, could push a steady supply of their product to the masses without having to worry about price fluctuations.
As a result Americans got more food choices and bigger portions. However, these choices weren't necessarily the most healthy.
Now it's the other way round. We have an over abundance of shytty, nutrient poor, high calorie food. The people eating most of this food are poor. Now being fat is associated with being poor.
