Whitney Houston and her half-brother Gary were molested as children by their cousin Dee Dee Warwick, according to the new documentary Whitney.

On Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival, filmmaker Kevin Macdonald told Vanity Fair he suspected the singer had "suffered childhood sexual abuse" as he watched hundreds of hours of private footage.

He told the publication:

"There was something very disturbed about her, because she was never comfortable in her own skin… She seemed kind of asexual in a strange way. She was a beautiful woman, but she was never particularly sexy. I've seen and done some filming with people who have suffered childhood sexual abuse, and there was just something about her manner that was reminiscent to me of that sort of shrinking—a lack of comfort in her own physicality that felt, maybe that is what it was."

After he was told off-the-record about the abuse, Macdonald finally persuaded Houston's longtime assistant Mary Jones to come forward with her account.

Jones said in her emotional interview:

"[Houston] looked at me and said, 'Mary, I was molested at a young age too. But it wasn't by a man—it was a woman.'… She had tears in her eyes. She says, 'Mommy don't know the things we went through.' I said, 'Have you ever told your mother?' She says, 'No.' I said, 'Well, maybe you need to tell her.' She said, 'No, my mother would hurt somebody if I told her who it was.' She just had tears rolling down her face, and I just hugged her. I said, 'One day when you get the nerve, you need to tell your mother. It will lift the burden off you.'"

However, Whitney never told mom Cissy Houston about her painful childhood trauma. Jones revealed:

"I think she was ashamed… she used to say, 'I wonder if I did something to make [Dee Dee] think I wanted her.' I said, 'Stop. A predator is a predator is a predator.' If Cissy had known, she would have done something about it, because Cissy loves her children.'"

According to Macdonald, Cissy has been informed about the accusation and was "very upset." He added:

"I think she will watch the film at some stage, but it's obviously up to her when she wants to do that."

When discussing his addiction issues, fellow alleged victim Gary told the filmmaker:

"Being a child—being seven, eight, nine years old—and being molested by a female family member of mine. My mother and father were gone a lot, so we stayed with a lot of different people… four, five different families who took care of us."

While the film was initially going to emphasize Houston's alleged relationship with longtime best friend and employee Robyn Crawford, Macdonald ultimately decided against it.

"I initially thought the story was maybe about her sexuality—that she was somebody who was not able to be gay [publicly]… I realized that actually is not the story… [Houston] only had, as far as I'm aware, one proper homosexual relationship, with Robyn Crawford, which people know about. I think that only lasted quite a short time. I found some documentation that proves, without a doubt, that it was a romantic relationship between them… The real story, as I dug deeper, had to do with her family, and to do with race, I suppose, and her childhood."

Additionally, Crawford declined to participate in the film.

Whitney passed away on February 11, 2012, while Dee Dee died on October 18, 2008.

I'm not sure I can support the film maker feeling it's on them to bring this type accusation to light against someones family. The accused and the victim both being dead makes it even more distasteful.

The only person this serves to benefit is the film maker via generating controversy and they admitted they were looking for an angle with the Robyn shyt.

pass.

The Whitney doc feels like a cash grab from her relatives cuz Whitney is no longer alive to give them money and take care of them and they haven't recouped. It's going to vilify her and attack Black men via Bobby and make him look like a monster. All this "Unreleased" Footage is greedy ass relatives selling their private mementos of her.

Like Eddie Griffin said, no black man leaves this business clean, but even if you DIE they will dig you up to shyt on you.

Above the fray.
Female predators need to be taken more seriously. Anyone who molests children needs to be shot on site.
I agree 100%. I think the documentary was being edited as the "metoo" movement took off, so he switched focus from "outing Whitney" to the exploitation of the sexual assault angle. While I don't think things should be swept under the rug........this is just sensationalism.

I think this is lazy filmmaking.
