Every Black female artist sinceTina/Donna Summer has been sexually explicit.

In fact, it can be argued if you look at the restrictions of each time period, she might be the only one. Even the first Black female superstar, Josephine Baker, was famous for a sexually explicit, degrading performance of dancing topless with a banana skirt.

Black women seeking superstardom have always had to be more sexually explicit than their White counterparts. As the western world has become more sexually liberal, this has become more pronounced. That’s how you get videos like WAP.

Lol at posters denying that this prejudice exist in the industry, compare Jasmine Sullivan’s sales to Adele.

There is nothing conservative about the majority of entertainers. The truth about Whitney Houston is that she was a crossover artist more so than an R&B artists. That is one of the reasons why she got with Bobby Brown to shed her goodie goodie image. The nature of pop music was very different in the 80s-90s than it is in the 2020s.

Nah, Alicia Keyes is fairly conservative in how she presents herself.
Mixed race privilege, doesn’t count. I’m talking about how the industry and public works. Black female artist find it extremely difficult to make it into the mainstream without sex being a part of their act.

Taylor Swift, Adele, and Billie Eilish. Taylor and Adele are the most successful female artist of the 2000s. Billie is the biggest female artist of the last few years and might dominate the 2020s. None of them are sexually explicit. Sex sales but White women can sale without it.

I’m not too sure if Nick’s privilege exists just yet. Being light skin is an advantage and it has worked to Alicia Keys advantage even though her talent level is good but not great.

Whitney Houston was around before hip-hop totally Ingulfed black music. Soulful R&B was still a thing. Black people still learn to sing in the church. Rap was nowhere near as big as R&B was now it’s vice versa.

It does count. She’s considered black and calls herself black. I understand she’s biracial, but within the sphere of black music, she is absolutely perceived as a black woman and a black musician.

Nah. Every black female artists YOU listen to probably. Because Lalah Hathaway, Ledisi, Angie Stone aren't really walking around popping dey coochie on random nikkas and in random songs.
Every Black female artist sinceTina/Donna Summer has been sexually explicit.
Even Jenifer Hudson, Lianne La Havas and Tamia aren't really known for popping coochie on stage. And that's just R&B if you get into gospel and jazz it's probably even a smaller percentage.

She’s definitely giving an advantage because she’s light complected and keen featured though.
