We hear so much about Dr. King, Malcolm X, Booker T. Washington, and George Washington Carver, but we never really hear much about black people in this day and age that are doing incredible things. So I figured this thread would be a good place to list some of them.

For me, Geoffrey Canada immediately comes to mind.

He started the Harlem's Children Zone in Harlem, NY. Graduated from Harvard, and his school has closed the acheivement gap between white and black students. I believe he said 99% of all graduates of the school enter college. I saw a documentary on him and he said any child born in the blocks around the HCZ that he wants to know who they are so he can make sure they go from the crib to the cap and gown.

His school is black ran and to me is an example of the type of black man I want to be at his age.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson is very vocal. I'd like for him to speak on some more black issues (unless he already is and I haven't heard them yet)

Nah, you're right he really doesn't speak on race issues much. The one talk that comes to mind is this interview:

Barack Obama. Tiger Woods. LeBron James. Kanye West.

As a 22yr old brought up in the 00's surrounded by urban popular culture. They're contemporary black heroes to me.
