Who are these people who follow Tennis?

It's the one sport where I've never met anyone who follows it yet it remains globally popular

Is it old people? Young people? Whites? Blacks?

Most people cant name any Tennis players outside of the major ones that ESPN talks up (Nadal, Williams Sisters, Sharapova, etc)

Where are the hardcore Tennis fans at?

Most follow tennis during the majors and maybe a few check the tournaments leading up to the majors.

Tennis as a spectator sport is a luxury sport not assimilar to golf. it is a country club sport. The difference is you can put a tennis court almost anywhere, similar to a basketball court, and play / learn to play.

but the crowd? Tradition? Thats country club / tennis club luxury thus hard core fans are a somewhat wealthy older crowd.

The latter is generally false. A lot of these players have had the best training and facilities available to them since they showed any semblance of plus plus talent
