Slightly off topic but what's your thoughts on Caribbean Indians? What are mainland Indians thoughts on them in general for that matter? Just curious.
Well for proper Indians, all the diaspora are pretty much irrelevant, except for 20th and 21st century immigrants who send money back home to their families and communities. Mostly British and American Indians in that regard. But for those who were made to leave because of colonialism during the 19th century to places like the British West Indies, South Africa, and Fiji, there is no relevance at all. They're a drop of water in the ocean. Can't be more than 20 million of them, what's that when you've got more than one and a half billion? Nobody thinks or cares about them much. The only exceptions to this are the leading cricket players for the West Indies, guys like Alvin Kallicharan, Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan back in the day. More recently, Samuel Badree, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Rampaul. These guys are super popular, partly because they're great players, but also because of their heritage.
Being an Australian, the Caribbean Indians are equally irrelevant to me. I've never met one. Of course there is some sympathy because they were the victims of colonialism and white supremacy, otherwise they would never be in places like Trinidad or Guyana or Jamaica. But I can't say that I know about their issues or care about their affairs.
Fijian Indians, or Findians as we call them here, are much more relevant. And they are immensely unpopular with proper Australian Indians with recent roots to south Asia. Findians are fukked man, we don't get on with them at all well.
