I think it depends on where you grew up
I grew up in the South. Jay didn't have much juice down here until after Big Pimpin and even then no one was trying to dress or act like Jay because he wasn't a trendsetter for us at the time. He certainly wasn't bigger than other acts like Outkast or Cash Money.
