Chess is a great game. My dad and uncles taught it to me, I taught it to my son. To be good you have to be able to see two and three moves ahead, have pattern recognition, creativity, evaluation and calculation... all of which are great attributes to have in the game of life

That's nice. Is it possible for a complete novice to learn and then become good at Chess using online platforms? Thanks Bro.

You gone be like me not knowing how TF to know where to move to outsmart your opponent. Should have learned that shyt as a kid

:russ: I fear that too. I know I am too past gone to pick up boxing but Chess is something that would benefit me like boxing and improves you as a Man.

I think first thing is you gotta define 'good'. Are you gonna become a grandmaster as an adult with no chess background? Almost impossible. Can you get to like 1500-2000ELO? Sure, it takes a bunch of training.

The easiest way to get 'good' is to not blunder. Most low level players blunder a piece every move, so if you don't do that you can advance very easily.

- look at all checks and captures when you move
- look at pins and forks
- don't blunder
- 'see' the board(this is most difficult)

Just doing those 3 things you can beat most low level players

That's disheartening lol. It's not like I have what it takes to grandmaster but to know there is a learning curve with experience is harsh.

I will still definitely pick it up more but to let my friends or peers know I am no Chess player is sort of embarrassing. It is heavily respected so I will learn in secret or online lol.

Props on the advice and to learn to 'see' the board. I hear the only true opponent is yourself that sounds dope :banderas:

A little known fact:

Rza once played chess with Emry Tate... The tate brothers dad. He was a chess grandmaster

Bro thats extra dope I messed up my attempt to rep this information lol.

Their father was a Chess grandmaster I know they played Chess since they were kids. It looks like a life long type commitment to getting masterful.

I like the challenge though.

Chess.com has training platforms and you can play games against similarly ranked players and work your way up.

Thank you for this.

I have to learn all the basics then get good at the basics to a competent level then I can start considering myself a top Chess player.

I'm looking forward to the challenge. :salute:

Its 100% GZA. He’s the one who taught RZA and ODB and the other Wu members how to play.

Artists like Jay and Nas utilize chess more as a lyrical metaphor for how to think/move/strategize although Nas may be more into it as an overall game as he’s creating and executive producing a television series about a black chess grandmaster.

They love making chess metaphors and purporting the whole "This is chess, not checkers" phrase to make shyt sound good but mfs ain't out here talking about they like to employ the use of Queen's Gambit or that they start with d4 to destroy their opponent or sum shyt

And I was going to say GZA over RZA, but I didn't only because he already took the L to Bobby Digital at that tournament they did way bacc when lol

Wu tang would like a word with you
