Me and my brother were talking yesterday about random good college basketball players who didnt make it, and the name Rashad Phillips came up:lupe:

I remember this dude dominating in the Horizon League (I believe) at Detroit Mercy and taking them to the NCAA Tournament a couple times, but the thing I remember most was that dude looked like a Baby Iverson on the court:blessed:

His crossover was so mean, he had a nice jumpshot and 3pt game, he was quick, fast, practically the same size (5'11 160 lbs) as Iverson and he looked the part (Wore the #3 and had the braids) and played like it:wow:

Dont tell me Im the only person on thecoli that remembers Rashad Phillips brehs:comeon:

For you younger heads on here, this is a little youtube footage on him:

Was a beast at UofD,just tooooo damn small and as crazy as it sounds not quick enough for his height.

I remember my trainer telling me he walked up to Rashad Phillips and told him you need to work with me and get quicker you wont make it to the NBA at your size as a scorer unless you get quicker

Rashad gave him the:rudy::camby: and said you got to be kidding me I'll be alright

Draft night came and the nikka aint make it to the league:sas2:

He a beast tho.

Yeah, breh had that 'tude:heh:

He could've made it to the NBA if he would've listened to your trainer, but you know you cant tell hoopers nothing:manny:

It wont let me edit, but he was quick for HIS league he played in. Not enough for the NBA, but in college he was a fukking monster:heh:

I wonder what would've happened if he was coming out now? He'd probably make it

Hell yea couldnt tell him nothing and what was even crazier my trainer said he didnt want anything from him,he just didnt want his dreams to get crushed dude still didnt listen.

And he might have made it in this era, probably would have been similar to Isaiah Thomas from the Kings

The crazy part is the fact that Jermaine Jackson had a few stints with NBA teams. I literally grew up around the corner from this nikka (nikka whole family is being indicted right now over distribution of Oxy, OP's, Roxy's, ect) but he is overseas winning championships. JJ will forever be a East Warren legend. I dont even know what hood Rashard was from or where he is hoopin at right now. Anybody know if he is overseas doing anything???

It does bring back alot of memories:blessed:

He played at Detroit Mercy from 1997-2001, and I remember him being named Honorable Mention All-American in 2001 plus dominating the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament they have for the players leaving college.

Ferndale High School (Ferndale, MI) 1992-1996
Rashad Phillips entered Ferndale High School as a 4ft. 8inch tall freshman who was told he was too small to play varsity basketball. He ended up becoming one of the first players to be a four year varsity Letterman going from being un-noticed to one of the most recognized players in Oakland County. Rashad was Oakland county's player of the year and top scorer in 1996, averaging 25 points, 7 assists and 4 steals. This accomplishment led to Rashad being nominated to play in the Magic Roundball Classic, an All-star game featuring the country’s best high school players. After filling in for another injured player and out-dueling Kobe Bryant, Rashad was named MVP of his winning team in front of the excited Palace of Auburn Hills crowd of 15,000.

Rashad was then heavily recruited by many colleges, but had already committed to the University of Detroit Mercy.

"The best player never drafted" ~Kobe Bryant

Yep, cane in to say I think that nikka was from Ferndale, although as all my Detroit nikkas know, just cause a nikka hooped there, don't mean he was from there. I remember going to watch him and Demons Ferguson cook frequently since U of D was pretty much around the corner from me and the tickets were practically free. nikka was a beast with no conscience.
