Most gymnasts and figure skaters talk comeback just to keep their names in the news and to increase their value to sponsors. Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson were pretty much finished after 2008 but they talked 2012 Olympics to keep the endorsement money and appearance fees coming in.

Unless Gabrielle Douglas makes the 2015 World team, I will say that the comeback talk is just to help publicize her other endeavors.
