We always talk about the rappers who disappointed and didnt live up to their potential whether it be musically or popularity wise But which rapper overachieved the most in your opinion and why?

You can base this on pretty much criteria you want

1. French Montana. I never expected him to blow up the way he did. Homie came a long way from those Cocaine City DVDs. He was even on one of the Smack DVDs. That grind paid off.

2. Lil B. Dude trolled his way to fame lol. He had a lot of people talking about him for a while. I know his group had that "Vans" song but for a solo artist he definitely overachieved in terms of popularity. Music wise he's pretty bad to avg.

Nikki Minaj, I honestly expected her to have a lil Kim, Foxy Brown type career but she ends up becoming this huge crossover pop star :dwillhuh:

Ice T and LL acting careers. LL was in a Halloween movie and a Shark Movie, Ice T is one of the main character on a classic TV series, them nikkas won.

I guess you can throw Cube's acting career in there :manny: Anaconda and XXX was a good look for him :manny:

Also, Lil Wanye, I never expected him be to as popular as he is, with Mountain dew commercials and all. I thought he would be lil Filp status today :ehh:

Kanye West.

He started out under No I.D. as somewhat of an apprentice. Then he was a producer for D. Dot. Then he started making a name for himself as a producer. Few people believed in his skills as a rapper, yet he pops up on a song with Jay. This leads to an appearance as a rapper and producer on Twista's "Slow Jamz", which leads to him releasing his own solo rap album he'd been working on for years in College Dropout. That album goes on to spawn several hits and changes Hip Hop propelling Kanye into a rap star. His spot is solidified with the release of Late Registration. Then comes Graduation and it's at this point that he becomes a superstar in music in general. Everything after has critics salivating over everything he releases.
