Seattle, these cats way before my time. But my mom knew Sir Mix A Lot back in the 80s, she was in a hip hop dance group.
Obviously Sir Mix A Lot is the most well known and got Seattle rap nationwide attention. A lot of people don't know Butterfly from Digable Planets is from Seattle too, not NYC.
And this should be Seattle's rap theme song imo.
This a local classic from the 90s lol
In Detroit rap hit the scene in the mid or late 80’s so it was either Prince Vince, Joe Kool, Awesome Dre, The J to the D, Kaos & Mystro, Poncho & B Def, Smiley, then it was Rap Mafia, Esham, etc. in the 90’s
For NJ it has to be the Awesome 2, Teddy Ted and Special K. After Mr. Magic pioneered hip hop radio, the A2 got on around the time Red Alert started spinning.
Heard their names at the time, but wasn't aware of their show until years later. They were the Jersey connection to the emerging hip hop scene in NYC.
.
Uncle LukeThe central hip hop scene and history in your metro area stems from which DJ, club promoter, artist, or club?
