I can't find the article right now but there's a evidence to there being greater negatives of being short than there are benefits to being tall. Social, economic, health, etc. Taller women don't have gain nearly as much benefits as taller men and men generally go for women who are shorter than them... but they're paid more, on average and are healthier. By tall I mean 5'10 and over.

Meanwhile short men face social ostracization, in top of lower pay and are a greater risks of developing health issues like obesity. All and all, a shorter man needs to out perform his peers, in most areas of his life, to break even and remain "competitive". By short I mean 5'7 and under.

Tldr, short men have nothing to fall back on if they're average. Tall women do, their height makes them literally above average and women have more inherent value in society than men.

Average height for a woman in the US is 5’4, so not sure why you stretched all the way up to 5’8 to define “short.”

But short men catch a lot more flack than tall women.
