While Blueray is technically superior space wise, hd-dvd had better implementation of its features and just work better. In the beginning it was actually winning the war, But PS3 was too much. The first transformer movie hd-dvd was at the time on my 65inch tv!

Most major film companies were supporting blu ray anyways

This. A lot of movies were made for bluray were not being made for hd-DVD because of this. I remember going into best buy like they bout to lose this war.
