The state senator - slippery like a jellyfish
Lester Freeman - the smartest character in the show
Slim Charles - a true soldier, and loyal
Avon - he ran his organization so well the police had to break laws to take him down

Before his come up Slim had to be the GOAT henchmen.

Knew enough to avoid dummy missions and stayed neutral when his bosses were beefing. Most goons would have been on some Starscream shyt under a shaky leadership like that.

This scene made me realize that avon was gonna lose the war. He was too old school. His time had passed. All his most reliable soldier were passed their prime except cutty, who we find out later is also too old for the game.

But he would have crushed Marlo. In the actual war, Avon basically always had the upper hand. He could (and did) lose battle after battle to Marlo and it didn't matter at all because of how solid Avon's wartime foundations were. No matter how many battles he lost, there was always another army Avon could assemble, within a day of losing his last one. For every soldier Marlo had, Avon had a hundred.

Marlo was never going to win. He could never win. He was fighting not against Avon, but against the Hydra from Greek mythology. You cut off one head of the Hydra, two more grow out of its body to replace the one you beheaded.

In the end it was a third party, the police, which stopped Avon from winning. Head-to-head it was no chance for Marlo

Yep. Stringer thought he was picking sides but nah, he was being neutral and he was following the chain of command. Plus like you said, he knew not to go on dummy missions.
