You do know some Jews escaped persecution by simply claiming they're not Jewish, right?

Could a black slave just say "I'm actually white", and escape slavery? How about a lynching? What about going into colored vs white spaces in Jim Crow?

German Jews were a thing. They spoke German, were born in and lived in Germany their whole lives, and by all accounts were German. The only difference is that they were Jewish. That's why names like Baumgartner, Kaizer, Silberstein, etc exist.
