There needs to be an understanding of how to present your argument and how your message will connect with others.
If your message is that the common denominator is mankind's cruelty to one another, arguing that the holocaust was not about race is not the best way to present that message.
We shouldn't be having a debate on whether or not Jewish people are a race. It is splitting hairs for no reason, when we know that Hitler's objective was creating what he viewed as a pure race.
It is easy enough to reflect on several atrocities commit throughout the history of man and focus on the underlying factors: greed, ambition, immorality, disregard for suffering.
I do agree with @RhapSaRiq in that much of how I feel depends on the topic they were having beforehand. If they were on their usual bullshyt of trying to deny race as component, it is a good example of how people respond when they are served their own medicine.
