Eh, Austin is a pretty chill area overall. no area is "Never go there" but the rule of thumb is that the further east of I35 you are, the more careful you need to be.
My big tips are just be perceptive. I deal with a lot of drunk people or people who are headed to go drink/have a good time DT so I'll offer a dude two sticks of gum (One for later, Breh), have bottles of water available in a small cooler that I'll offer, and even a bunch of lifestyle condoms that I'll throw brehs if they picking up chicks.
