ll cool j is a legend

the issue with him is after mr smith

his albums were just really bad sans maybe 1-2 singles

chris rock said during his top 5 movie promo tour that if ll cool j would have stopped after mr smith he would be in the top 5 arguement

his problem was the defjam repackage attempt

AFTER mr smith

defjam has said before mr smith was a repackage of ll cool j to make him relevant to a newer audience hence the who shot ya remix etc..

that mr smith album is fairly decent

but after that they kept recycling the repackage of like hey pair him up with someone whos on/hot and over all it didnt work sans a few cuts like phenomenon 4321 track

which phenomenon was a really weak album but the singles pushed it

then he follows up with GOAT

now to be fair coming off of phenom

goat was a GREAT look

but again the singles moved that album the kelly price joint was a HUGE single for him imagine that was a decent lead off single

the prodigy cut queens is popped on the mixtape scene

the canibus diss back where i belong also hit the mixtapes

but the album fell flat

now see the pattern here? album is mehh but the singles carry it

then he drops 10

same formula repackage with newer acts

luv u better HUGE single

paradise did well and special edition of the album put the j lo song all i have which was a BIG record for her

rest of the lp ZZZZZzzzzz

now here is where it gets ugly

Definition album

head sprung was luke warm

rest of the LP is a dud no singles this time to push it they tried with hush and that bricked

now interesting enough they broke the pattern of pairing him up with a new hot act

now todd smith

legit you can tell they thought we went solo ll and we fukked up GET THE COLLABOS ON DECK NOW!!!

album is covered with pairings

they really tried here and it fell flat control with j lo didnt make that all i have wave freeze bricked the LL and sanatana was ehhhh and they even put the neyo so sick remix on this album lol

album was a brick

exit 13 same issues

baby and cry didnt really pop and the album mehhh

authetic

ughhh whaddup and we came to party(and the remix) DOA

album garbage

and his i am the greatest hasnt seen the light of day yet and probably shouldnt

hes been consistently putting out trash since 1997 which is 20 years now

but he was fortunate enough that he had big singles to carry him to platinum and gold until 2006 then that shyt stopped

he fukked up his formula which was

be yourself

the defjam repackage after mr smith just fukked him up and it became just collabo with whos hot and make a good single he stopped respecting the process and ll cool j albums stopped sounding like ll cool j albums

also with his other movie and tv stuff his heart just didnt seem in it like no lead in to the albums just yea here my album

no quest spots or remixes leading up to it etc..

just dropped the turd and walked off

like you really think lip sync battle ll cool j cares about making a classic album right now?

gringing and touring for checks?

nah that movie/tv money is guaranteed even if the movie or show flops his check was cut

Why? Time. That's all it is. Hip-hop forgets all of it's stars as time goes by and calls it falling off, and LL was the first of any of them not named Run-DMC. Man's first music came out just after the Thriller era for goodness sake. But the reality is his last batch of memorable music in the early 2000's is still more recent than Rakim, KRS-One, Ice Cube, Big Daddy Kane, Pac, Biggie...others that are mentioned as top 10 rappers, that he also came BEFORE
LL had a great run for a rapper, if he's overlooked that's on you:yeshrug:
