I’m talking bout the rise of Salafism in countries like Somalia and Nigeria and now those terrorist groups begging ISIS to initiate them into the gang and shyt.
Lemme take Somalia for example; That shyt is a DISGRACE to what it means to be African and more specifically Somali. I’m not talking about Islam, but more specifically this brand of Wahabism that has been dominating for the past 20+ years. And I’m not blaming al shabaab but also the vast majority of Somalis who were welcoming or even complacent as this virus seeped into and eventually overtook our culture.
Even tho it can be argued Somalia has been a Muslim country for 1400 years, it was NEVER an Islamic republic. Throughout history, and even now, Somalis have practiced different forms of Islam (Sunni, Sufi, etc) in addition to pagan and local religions. Shiii we even have a tribe of jewish descendants. There were mosques, senoguages, and churches in Somalia until the 90s. Shiii the last successful government was Socialist
For centuries, Somalis, like other people all over the world have integrated Islam into their culture to truly make it their own. UNTIL NOW
Now all of a sudden we’re forced to accept some backward ass Arab CULTURE that’s incompatible with our way of life under the guise of religion? And the crazy thing is mfs wanna act like it was always this way and not a recent development in the last couple decades. With 65% of the population under 25, that’s not a hard lie to pull off.
But look at the cultural shift from the 80s til now. Not only has it been stagnant, but it’s regressed in many aspects. The civil war definitely contributed to the stagnation but the wahabbi invasion hurled us straight into the dark ages
Yoo this shyt boggles my mind b/c it’s so blatantly disrespectful with mfs trynna act like this decades old innovation is inseparable from who we are as a people, country, and culture.
Fukk this exported poison. If it was so great SA wouldn’t pay em to export it elsewhere and keep out of domestic issues.
I think most Somalis are discouraged from voicing their own independent opinion about this for fear of “speaking out against the religion.” Naw b we not falling for that shyt, it’s perfectly legitimate to be Muslim and still want these mf out our country and culture. It’s nothing more than new age cultural colonization.
