This might be it. I've seen families where all the daughters went on to be scholars and the sons became street nikkas. But it also might be race/gender differences in societal treatment. shyt starts young, in those early teenage years when you start applying for jobs, black girls get jobs easier than black boys, and eventually a lot of young dudes give up on finding a job and find another way to make money (usually illegal).

Do you also think that white men's fears of black masculinity plays a role?

White men hold much of the power in the workplace and in making hiring decisions. I wonder if they're more tense around black male employees/colleagues than black female employees/colleagues?
