Why are college QBs "penalized" for being in a "gimmick" offense, but...

But WRs aren't. Don't they gain similar advantages of running a spread offense?

But I'm not a football officianado... :jawalrus:

So someone please enlighten me. Why are QBs shunned upon for running the spread offense and WRs praised when they put up their respective numbers in that same offense?

Cause WR's are judged purely on athleticism...QB's are judged on the "mental" aspect and being able to play in a pro system instead of running the same 3-4 plays over and over.

Pretty much. I wouldn't say that WR are judged purely off athleticism but they aren't asked to do as much as a QB in an offense. A WR only focus is running their route and beating/blocking their man. A QB has to know what everybody is doing and be able to read what the defense is doing and make any adjustments necessary in an instant.

Is that the fault of the QB or the coach?

And usually the QB is running several different variations of those 3-4 plays which does require some mental ability. :pachaha:
As a QB you're still required to understand the concepts regardless of what type of offense you're running, unless your coach babies you your entire way through the program.

Some of these QBs are written off simply because they ran a spread offense in college without factoring in their ability to throw the ball down the field and capacity to learn and retain information. Two of, what I think, are the most important things in being a QB in the NFL.

Yet, these WRs that can barely run the route tree with rounding everything off eat good off of those spread offense stats.

if you already "know" the answer, why ask the question :teo:

I agree that the whole mental aspect thing is overrated Im just letting you know what the scouts are looking at...but it seems like u already knew the answer :manny:.

No, I still don't get why WRs aren't penalized the same as QBs. I "understand" the faulty logic in evaluating QBs, but wonder why the same logic isn't applied to WRs. Unless you're built like Calvin Johnson, or run a 4.3, you'll need a little bit more than athleticism to be really successful as a WR in the NFL. Instincts, coverage understanding to know where the open spots will be, reading your defender in man coverage to gauge the best way to play them. The same lack of thought that benefits the QB will benefit the WRs in a spread offense, in a lot of cases

But in saying all of that... I think I may know the answer now.

Racism....:gladbron:

These cacs trying to hold one to the two positions they still have a hold on (QB, OL), and most of these cac QBs don't have the athleticism to fall back on, so they try to hold it against other QBs (usually black, but not always) to tout there good ole pocket passing QB who couldn't scramble an egg in a 20 foot pan, let alone out of the pocket.

(Rant warning)

They were talking slick about Cam, RGIII, RW (when he first earned the starting job)... But love them some Tannehill and Leinart and were quick to jump on Andy Dalton's nuts to try to downplay Cam's success. How many of these bum QBs are they gonna try to convince us is the next big thing and has all the "tools" aka (pocket passing white guy) to be the next great QB

Matter of fact.... how many black QBs in recent history have even a slight MAJORITY of analysts said is going to be a good NFL QB? I can't remember what they said about Vince Young... but we see how quickly that turned anyway.

I never answered the question... Those comments don't explain "WHY" WRs aren't penalized the same as QBs, or even at all for that matter. In fact, they may gain an advantage for playing in that offense...

But my above post may have answered it... At least it's MY answer
