Well, imagine that you meet an amazing woman. She's wonderful, better than you in almost every way, rich with a wonderful family history, and living peacefully before you come along.
Imagine you take her from her happy home, kill most her family, and lock them all up in a house that you stole from its owner. You torture her, beat her, rape her, take her children and brainwash them, make her decorate the place beautifully, take all the credit, lock her in the basement, provide nothing for that basement though she does the best she can with what she has, you feed her scraps while shaming her for the predicament you put her in. You do this for so long that she barely recalls who she was before she met you....then...
...after years and years of this, you give her a key to that dingy basement and say, "You can leave the basement, but you have to work twice as hard to get the key to this house that I stole...so, in the meantime, do you mind helping me out around here and hopefully we can put our differences aside.
"Sorry for all that other shyt...but that was a long time ago. Maybe you should ease up on that temper."
She goes outside and sees how cut-off from the world you've made her and screams out in frustration. Everyone knows what happened, but they've only been able to see her breakdown. They think she's crazy and you've spun the narrative so everyone else takes your version as truth, though they also know that you're a shyt person and not to trust you.
Eventually, you approach her and try to charge her rent for living in the basement you had her chained in....then you raise that rent. She moves out and avoids you but you text and call all the time because you're sadistic.
Years later, you meet her working at a diner and order coffee. She brings you that coffee...and before you sip it, you remember how you treated her.
So you ask for coffee from someone else.
That's why.
