Why are "real hip hop fans" so afraid to admit that Lil B & Chief Keef have been influential?

i love 80s and 90s hip hop just as much as so called self entitled "real hip hop" fans, but why is it that these people lack complete objectivity and let their personal taste downplay influence? Is it because they feel they're some how protecting and defending "real hip hop" and "real lyricists"? In doing so?

I'm not a Stan either for either artist by any means, so save that accusation. I fukk with about a dozen or so Of Lil Bs song, I like Keefs older music a lot but he lost me for a bit. Although lately he's been back to putting out dope shyt.

Lil B is one of the most influential rappers to come out over the past 5 years.
He's been in the game longer than that but his solo popularity started around the 2010-2011 time and his impact on the game is literally undeniable.

Yup. Him and Keef have been very influential to a lot of rappers coming up in this generation. I remember when people were making threads and posting all sorts of songs from Cali to Japan to Europe of rappers doing their best Keef impression.

This dude is from Cali

Not on lil b?
Pretty sure this dude is from Israel

I don't rap like Lil B but he's the reason I rap period :yeshrug:

This thread makes me think tho.
If you look at Lil B, Chicago Drill Scene, Houston rap scene, Memphis, it's always the same.
The Influence a rapper or region leaves on the game is never as big as the actual rapper or region itself.

This is a good point. That's how musical subculture is in general. You have artists in indie rock, punk rock etc that have had a huge influence on their peers and that musical sub culture in which they represent but your avg music fan unless knowledgeable about that specific genre or sub genre wouldn't know. I doubt most people ever heard of the black punk band 'Death' but there influence on punk music has been huge.

Idk but that term "real hip hop fans" is kind of a passe thing to say on this forum. The only people who use that to describe themselves or others are cacs, casuals, or both who actually only have a very base knowledge of the culture

You answered your own question essentially. If an artist doesn't fit a purist's sensibilities they completely dismiss them...many fans don't know how to appreciate an artist's value if they don't individually enjoy the music. When it comes to "real hip-hop heads" they're petty towards even certain lyricists so artists like Lil B &Chief Keef are just looked at like a black eye on Hip-Hop and nothing more.

I have a piece I just wrote about this coming up hopefully next week
