Why are so many people prone to be followers?

I know on some very small level, we all subconsciously are followers to a degree.

But I'm talking about major followers, like:
-I have to speak this way b/c other people do...then I gotta switch up the way I talk every 6 months when slang changes.....
-I gotta stop thinking this or that is cool b/c everyone else has......-
-I gotta buy this type of car bc everyone else has it.....
-I gotta get these tattoos b/c everyone on TV has them.....
-There's 350 breeds of dogs, but I gotta get a pitbull b/c every other hood dude has one....
-I gotta listen to this music b/c everyone else does.

But the people who they follow are often the ones who chose NOT to be followers themselves.

I don't get it. Beyond 6th or 7th grade, I was never interested in being like everyone else.

Nah this predates social media.

I mean I understand why ppl want to be "cool", but at some point in life you should want to find out who YOU are.

It's an unfortunate byproduct of human nature. People want to follow whatever interests them. We all do it in some way, shape, or form.

Conformity

The price of being a non conformist costs being ostracized from society.

Most people live vicariously through other people. They try to impress others for the sake of external validation. Social acceptance aka “do you like me” mentality.

You notice this hierarchy in high school with the popular kids, jocks and athletes. This mentality never ends. It just evolved with influencers and celebrities being “father figures” to the average citizen.

Being a leader requires responsibility, charisma, emotional intelligence and confidence.

Being a leader makes you an distinctive person. A trend setter. A director capable of influence.

When you don't conform it's sooooooooooooooooo much more peace of mind and freedom. I'm childless, and got my own place, and car.
