Why Boxing got so many divisions and title belts?

I always wondered this, not a huge boxing fan and just finally decided to ask

its extremely confusing when it seems everyone and their grandma got a belt

More divisions and titles equals more money for the organizations and the promoters.

I really only pay attention to who the Ring Magazine champions are but even that seems flawed. Everyone who follows boxing knows who the REAL best fighters are anyway.

Federations are a big proponent of this but having different weight classes are important due to the fact that similarly weighted people can compete. A 200 pound heavyweight is going to walk through anything a welterweight throws and fukk him up. It's why Canelo is a 154 pounder and Floyd is a 147 pounder yet they look even more different than the seven pound disparity.
