Side note I didn’t realize so many New Yorkers don’t pronounce the “BR” sound or R’s, in general. It comes out like “bwuther” instead of “brother”. It throws me off when AZ does it too. Not a bad thing, it just always make me think twice when I hear it.

I have 1st cousins from Harlem and Bronx. I’ve went to school with transplants from NYC (Queens, Long Island, Brooklyn, etc. A lisp involves the s sound, that isn’t a lisp. I’m not saying it’s most of NYC, but I’ve heard it enough that it just might be a thing for some people up there. It’s nothing to get defensive about.

Above the fray.
Only time I've ever noticed it is from relatives or other NYers of Haitian descent. And it's when they are saying Brooklyn, and it comes out Bwooklyn. I saw it as a function of the common sounds and words in Kreyol....with W sound freely being used in French derived words that begin with the letter R.
Never noticed it from other NYers.

I’ll apologize and take back my original response it was overblown and mean spirited. I thought it was another quote/mention in the other thread. I didn’t realize you actually made this one. But I’m keeping the smiley up there.
