If you are arguing with an extremely ignorant person they are incapable of understanding they are wrong because they lack the required familiarity with the subject to differentiate what is correct from what is incorrect.
In these scenerios your mistake is the arguement itself. If you are factually correct your stance should not be argumentive but rather explanatory.

Of course this creates resentment. As non-intellectuals prefer to be incorrect and mistakenly viewed as correct vs exposed as incorrect and educated so as to have more information than they entered with.
Its extremely short sighted.
