It's funny to me but, there was a time folks talked about Hip Hop being dead but what they didn't realize was Hip Hop was also killing off other forms of artistry associated with Black folks. Musicianship, ability to play actual instruments, vocal training, and probably a gang of other artistry I'm missing all suffered as a result of Hip Hop's popularity among the youth. Look at a group like NWA and folks immediately think of Dre's production, but forget that DJ Yella was playing drums on that sh!t. They had a white dude Donovan the guitar man. How many producers in Hip Hop are playing real drums nowadays? Or can play a piano? Everything is electronic nowadays and the musicianship is suffering. Probably the same way with vocalists. How many folks are growing up singing in the church nowadays? Not remotely as many as it used to be I imagine.
