Put an umlaut over the 'Y' on Reasonable Doubt ?

Generally this is used over a vowel . The letter Y can be found with a diaeresis , in Greek that has been translated that make a 'U' sound .

It can also be found in Dutch and Afrikaans.

Did Hov wish his name to be pronounced differently ?
Or was this an early clumsy attempt to exhibit Euro tendencies?

And why.. did the umlaut disappear on some copies?

In Dutch :

In typing, the combination of i and j is commonly used. In handwriting, it is mostly written as ÿ.
