Why did Once Upon a Time in Shaolin sell for "only" $2 Million?

I know this is late, but since the album has been back in the news again ...

Is it just me, or does the $2 million price that the album initially sold for seem kind of low?

With Wu having one of the most hardcore fan bases in all of music, and plenty of rich dudes looking for ways to blow their money, and the exclusivity attached to owning the album, I thought the album would have commanded something more like $10 million.

$2 mil is too much for a bs wu tang album

Sure, but $2 million is also too much for a random painting by some dude who lived 100 years ago.

The point is, I expected the fact that it was a one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang collector item to allow it to command more than it did, regardless of how much the album might suck

Wu's fanbase doesn't consist of retarded stans

If it was an Eminem album, it could have been sold for more than 50 million, his fans are buying bricks from his old house for $300 a piece so you can clearly see the difference

Because it's not an actual wu album. It was a copy and paste job done by some snake in morocco who gathered verses over the years under the presumption it was for his own compilation album and signed off by RZA at the very end for a quick bag of cash. Not an actual authentic Wu album though I'm sure it is still a good listen it was just done shady and the entire clan (minus RZA who was paid off) disapprove big time

It doesn't matter

The point is, it is a Wu-Tang collector's item.

All sorts of "makeshift" works of art that had little thought or time put into them sell for tens of millions of dollars to rich dudes who have money to spare and like to collect art

Yes it does matter, dummy. Name me the ALBUM that sold more. What set the precedence for an album getting anywhere near 2 million for 1 copy?

Smart dumb ass nikkas :snoop:

Can you chill with the personal attacks?

Obviously I can't name any other album which sold for more because the entire concept of making one copy of an album and selling it was a novel one

It was a novel idea but you still haven't explained to anyone why on Earth you would believe a single album would get anywhere close to 2 million dollars, let alone more than that. When in documented history has a compilation of music ever sold comparably, or even remotely, that much? There's a reason the sale made so many headlines. A fukking rap album...fukk it, an ALBUM...sold for 2 MILLION DOLLARS. shyt is almost unbelievable, especially during a time where well to do dudes don't even want to spend 10 bucks on their favorite artists albums.

Like I said...dumbass thread.

Wu's actual star power is highly exaggerated on here
people confuse Zumiez T Shirt sales of their logo for how popular they really are

Yeah, I get that. But when it comes to something like this, I thought it wouldn't matter how wide their popularity was, but rather how deep it was.

Wu has a strong cult following. I always thought that their top whatever-thousand fans were as hardcore and dedicated as the comparable subsection of any other music artist/group's fan base.
