Why did the Afrocentricity we saw in the early 90s seem to die out?

Afrika Bambaataa, KRS-1 Chuck D... All those guys are bombers in their 60s; born before the voting rights act & the civil rights act so Civil Rights era themes about black unity and rebellion were a big part of their music IMO.

But by the 90s, there was a war on drugs and a generation of black kids growing up in integrated white suburbs with different concerns.
