Why did the drill rap era receive way less backlash than the snap/crunk/dance era?

This is thecoli so I know y’all will fake like this isn’t true but I remember vividly how many artist in the mid to late 2000s got shyt on my old heads abs hip hop purist

Fast forward to the drill era, the bars are even worse than they were in the mid-late 2000s but those same old heads and gatekeepers had nowhere near the same energy and a lot of them even seem someone infatuated with these new young drill killer rappers even tho the bars are trash.
Because nikkas don’t want to hear shyt unless it’s about killing other nikkas. It’s that simple…

I feel like I get what you’re trying to say but say it another way.
Ok when Southern music took over hip hop most of the people were watching music videos and stuff based off MTV and Vh1and the radio. Of course there were parts of the Internet that a lot of people on here knew about but to the masses they all just had to follow suit.

Whether you liked that catchy music or not you had no where else to go and that’s why there was so much complaining.

When Drill music was blowing up that was the same time Drake was dropping his mixtapes online, Wayne was putting out no ceilings, Kendrick and J. Cole we’re dropping mixtapes.

There was an entire scene of rap music exploding as the same time as drill music so yeah people complained but it wasn’t the same as when an entire region took over rap

Did it really though?

Even here in NYC, everybody was bumping Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins, D4L, Unk, Dem Franchise Boyz, and Yung Joc when they blew up.

I literally only saw dudes on the Internet forums hating on that style of rap. Not denying a lot of it was trash/mid but it still got played at functions and parties. I remember Andres verse on the Walk It Out remix getting played as much as the original.

One key difference is that the Internet and especially social media is way bigger now than it was back then and theres tons of young Drill and new rap stans on Twitter and other places that clown and bash "old heads" who dislike new school rap. Also, the media is very decentralized today and Drill isn't radio friendly.

Back when "Buy U A Drank" came out, that song was played everywhere like a pop song. You couldn't escape that song even if you tried which made the haters of snap very agitated. Ditto for Crank Dat. Both those songs were Hotline Bling levels of overplayed.

By contrast, almost no Drill songs get played on the radio and it's very easy to not hear new rap songs in general regardless of hoe well they chart. So that plays a big role too.

The old heads and gatekeepers were always yelling in the crowd

the early 00s complaints were about protecting NY hiphops place
