he directed his anger towards the aliens.
"my secret is, i'm ALWAYS angry"
on the hellicarrier, he lost control and turned into hulk.
in the end, he basically consciously challenged his anger/pushed hulk towards the aliens and went HAM.
in incredible hulk, bruce banner was shown trying to learn to control his anger so he would minimize the outbursts and mindless destruction.
