They were hoping to sign flabby and sick deron over the best defensive player/anchor in the nba who made Chris Paul look like a genius point guard?

I guess the opportunity to try and land Deron and Dwight was too attractive so they needed the cap space.

But they basically let the heart and soul of their championship team walk away

Love Tyson and glad to have him on my squad after many years of wishing he was in NY. But I'd love to see him play against non-pro's in pick up ball. I wanna see if he'd still be terrified of dribbling or making an offensive move outside of a lob or putback. I say non-pro's cuz I've seen dudes who I considered complete ass in the NBA look like ALL NBA players when facing lesser comp. Josh Selby, Chucky Brown, JaVale Mcgee come immediately to mind. I wonder if Tyson can dominate a game offensively? Probably. I'm only half serious but I might die if I ever see dude do an 'up and under'.

Top 3 dumbest sports move in recent memory. Did Cuban really think dallas could draw big name free agents? :stopitslime:

They were banking on Deron coming to Dallas cause he's from there and then getting Deron would set the domino effect of Dwight following him there.

But that shyt backfired tremendously lmao

actually at that time, it wasn't a dumb move tho

Nah, I called it back then as an idiotic move. Their problem was never offense, they didn't need deron over tyson. And even if deron was considered a top pg back then and he was a hometown kid, it's very rare for big names stars to sign for smaller markets. Plus dirk wasn't getting any younger so there is no point in waiting for a big name free agent. They had already found a winning formula utilizing a great defensive anchor and complementary pieces taking them all the way to a championship - if ain't broke don't fix it.

open cap for deron and dwight

This. Cuban wanted to try to build a "superteam" around Dirk one last time. He clearly didn't believe what the did in 2011 was sustainable. Ironically enough Dwight and Deron are not exactly looking like max guys right now and the Knicks are out there looking like what Dallas could be now, with Melo in place of Dirk.
