Another thing is that Paper Trail was like his ceiling commercially. It was his biggest album. I think he set a record with "Whatever You Like" then broke it with "Live Ya Life". That's not to mention that "Dead and Gone" was another huge hit. "Swagger Like Us" was also huge. When artists have that kind of commercial success, it's hard to duplicate and they kind of tapper off popularity wise. He had a show on MTV during that time. It was some show where he was supposed to be a talking to delinquents or those on the road to becoming one. I think it was called Road to Redemption. It didn't stop the momentum of Paper Trail and the popularity he had at the time.

Then he went to jail where he spent a year and some change. He came back with "I'm Back", "Yeah You Know", "Got Your Back". He was featured on a couple of hot records. There was some momentum behind No Mercy (which was originally King Uncaged before he went back to jail). There were a lot of records dropped and a mixtape in support of the album. This was all before reality T.V., which he was originally against. Then he screwed up again and No Mercy was rushed to the public with "Get Back Up" as the lead single.

Him going back to jail in 2010 really set him back. It cost him fans. A lot of people that were behind, stopped supporting him because they were really pulling for him after he was released in early 2010. When he went back in the same year, a lot of them just gave up.

Off the bat...Tip's first 4 albums are personal classics to me. However, a few things about this guy have made me raise an eyebrow or go hmmm. Tip never gets props or really called out for the snaking, cutthroat shyt he has committed over the years. For a brief period in time Tip was on some fake beef shyt trying to take certain rappers fan bases on his rise to the top of the south. Tip got away with shyt that people hate about 50 cent. That Lil Flip shyt was fukked up, Flip was a mickey mouse rapper but remember he was pushing units record wise keeping the south hot. Tip instigated a fake beef just to take that man's fan base. Then he started going after Lil Wayne who ignored him and he tried to take on Luda and we all know how that went lol...
