Early Death Row

I vividly remember music from each being cited as either the downfall of society, stoking civil unrest or a threat to national well being

Frankly it was the last time rap music was edgy or dangerous

Can’t say the same for the east coast :francis:

cause fukk the police/white man

then white american youth were shown going ":gladbron: this is cool! lets emulate it!"

It's just my conspiracy theory wierdo shyt when I say it, but I don't think it was a coincidence that both of the biggest musical movements at the time (gangsta rap and grunge) both sprung up/got pushed on the west coast at the same time.

Anti authority which was big in the early - mid 90's

White kids from the suburbs loved that shyt and went out in droves to buy their music

There's a reason why all the west coast rappers were platinum plus artists (pac, snoop, cube, dre, warren g, dogg pound)

while east coast dudes were going gold at most except for Biggie

it's easier to accept the violent image(west) than the intellectual image(east)

suburban youth more entertained by gang culture than afrocentric street scholar raps

the gangs will embrace the white folk & make them feel comfortable before some street nikkas that embrace some flavor of 5% n.o.i. nuwaubian white man is the devil black supremacy yadda yadda yadda

just think what is more self destructive & what makes the better cultural ideological mental philosophical weapon

Cause while a lot of white folks complained, black buffoonery/negative imagery was "cool" to their kids. Public Enemy was probably the biggest rap group to whites until NWA dropped the nikkaz4Life album. Things took a turn from there and images started going hand and hand with the music so they made more noise. East Coast rappers weren't really about portraying or faking images at that point.

Because the East Coast was focused on fighting the power with knowledge, while the West Coast was actually helping the power, by pushing destructive agendas and narratives manufactured by the same companies who pretended to be scared by the sh*t they funded.

Classic bamboozled tactic.
