Why didn’t Ukraine get nuclear weapons?

You’re neighbours with a country with nuclear weapons and also a very powerful army that has wanted to invade you for decades and also a history of aggression towards you. Getting nuclear weapons should’ve been the number one priority for them the past few decades. You can’t tell me if they really didn’t want one they wouldn’t have got one? Ukraine was once part of the ussr that had nukes, they have nuclear scientists there who are capable of building nuclear weapons yet they didn’t. Why? Even countries such as Pakistan and North Korea have nukes and you don’t?


If Ukraine had nuclear weapons no way Putin would be invading them now. As soon as this war is over and the Russians somehow go back home, getting a nuclear weapon should be their first priority.

They could have dismantled the weapons and reassembled it to control it. They had the technology and the skills. Ukrainians were a key part of soviet nuclear technology

nukes wouldn’t save them you still need to have high end missle, submarine tech if you want to deter Russia. Ukraine is smaller than Texas. Nuclear war would decimate their population in 5 mins.
