Why do artists like Jay-z, Eminem, and Lil Wayne choose to rap about nothing?

These artists have the entire hip hop community tuned in every time they release a project and they choose to do nothing with it. I mean really these 3 artists could rap about anything they choose and sell mad records. Hip hop fell off due largely in part of the makers of the music distancing themselves from the listeners. Many people use the notion of obtaining X amount of dollars so you have to rap about your life as it is. I think that's a crock of bullshyt. Rappers in essence are authors/poets. If Stephen King's old ass is still coming up with stories and ideas for books you mean to tell me these guys can't push the envelope of creativity. Then again who are we non-rappin' consumers to tell these artists what to do with their craft/art.

Blame their fans...nah their stans. Wayne stans especially. nikkas listen to his album and feel that his lyrics are the illest shyt ever, but the real nikkas know that this isn't true. Glad I started posting here man, I've been on some bonk ass forums(not naming names) where stans ran rampant and had teams and shyt and every thread about specific rappers basically looked the goddamn same.

I think Jay-Z and Eminem both rap abouth "things".
Jay-Z's usual go to Topic is the life of a hustler, and
the motivations behind it, IF anything I think a lot of his
music humanizes people who are typically looked at as
nothing more than criminals.

Eminem does something similar but he doesn't try
to make the villain the good guy, he just writes from the
villains perspective whether that's rape or murder.
Relapse was a dope record because of that.

And both rappers draw from their personal lives
when they speak on absentee fathers, failed relationships
and other issues facing the life of someone living in poverty.

I also think it's kind of wack to put them on the same level
as Lil Wayne.Lil Wayne's discog just isn't there to make it
an apt comparison, they literally aren't in the same league.

I can agree on Wayne, but Jay-Z, and Eminem (even though I haven't liked a album from him since TES) definitely do. Another poster already broke down how they do rap about things.

My question to you though is what exactly do you want them to rap about?

you could always make a song about 'something' if you wanted.

if you listen to them, i don't see how you can even ask this question. weezy is the oddball here because he is more punchline oriented, but he still makes songs with concepts. what would you prefer? that the all come out with socially conscious albums? someone said above about niches and i believe all 3 and many other rappers all have their lanes.

por ejemplo, every single song on WTT was dealt with something major and/or personal, but you've got to be open to the message. it's not even like that's hard to do. hell eminem's last album had a single with a pop star about domestic violence, which they've both been a part of. if that's not about something then what is?

Em focused on selling/making popular records. Recovery was a bit more emotion driven. Jay is just self-centered with his materials and makes up drug tales. Wayne is probably a drug abused mind on wax and I wouldn't dare put him with the other two.

Jay is too in love with money for him to expand much beyond that. Eminem on the other hand could have such a huge draw focusing on more real things but eh.

Eminem put so much pain and his struggles in his music. Anyone who wanted to blow their brains out or wanted to drown their pain with controlled substances can be in tune with Eminem. Not sure why people don't want to give the kid his credit. I guess if your mind never ran in circles and have bad nerves, you'll only want to hear rappers rap about having fun.

Jay and Em rap about nothing??

So Jay didnt just release an album talking about the fleeting and destructive nature of fame

Our ancestral past and how it should lead to our success rather than our downfall

The pressures of being a new father but also being a good husband when u have a past where ur father was absent to teach you those how to do that

The conflict of selfless and selfish giving and the self conflict of social responsibility as a powerful black artist

Or giving us GodBody knowledge and criticizing the divisive nature of religion while giving the alternative of "God being within ourselves"

Or did all that just skip u by nikka?? :mjpls:

Do u fools listen to music or do u just skim thru it

It aint the fans fault..we gucci and secure outchea..its yall envious blind ass haters who refuse to see the substance in the music only to justify ur crab in the barrel ass hate :umad:
